A Moving Box: The History of Moving Houses

By the time Genesee County Public Schools started its new building in 1999, there were only a handful of small houses left in the region.

The oldest were built in the early 1900s and are now crumbling.

But there was another building on the lot that had a lot of history and was once home to the state’s first community of moving boxes.

In the 1940s, the state began a push to modernize its communities, and many people took up the idea of building homes on the land.

They wanted to be able to get a bit of a taste of home and move on with their lives.

Genesee resident David Croft moved into his old home in 1974.

The building was in need of a major upgrade and the new state government gave Croft a $10,000 grant to build a house on a lot at the end of a road.

“There was a lot going on in my life that I needed to get away from, so I thought it was a good time to go and do it,” Croft said.

The house had to have a floor-to-ceiling window that was wide enough to allow the view to the ground.

The old house was an ugly building and Croft didn’t want to be there any longer.

“It was just like, ‘Man, this is not right,'” he said.

So Croft and his brother, Bill, moved to a different part of town and began to restore the building.

They eventually built a home that became known as the Croft House.

“I always loved the old house,” Crofoot said.

“And I thought, ‘You know what?

It would be nice if this house had a little more personality.'”

The Croft house has been in the family since it was built in 1949.

It’s the oldest house in Genese County.

It wasn’t until recently that the Crofts noticed some issues with the building, especially the roof.

“We’ve had to do a lot more work to fix it up and make it look good,” Bill Croft explained.

The Crofts bought the building in 2010 and started renovating the space in early 2015.

But the renovations were a labor of love.

Bill Crofts said the Crofters’ biggest accomplishment was keeping the building’s historic feel intact.

“It’s a bit sad, because it’s just a little house that is really in disrepair,” Bill said.

“We want to do everything we can to keep this house alive,” David Crofts added.

“I’m sure there are a lot other people out there that would love to have this house, but we have to have that kind of dedication to make it happen.”

The Crofters have been keeping the Croften House in the house since the building was purchased and are hoping to make the house a home again soon.

Bill is also working on renovations to the new house and is hoping to move the Crofter’s family out.

“The idea of moving our family out and renovating it and taking that down, it’s something we’re very excited about,” David said.

David and Bill have also built a small museum on the building and hope to continue that project.

David Croft hopes the new building will be a “living museum,” and hopes to share the history of the building with others.

The new Croft building is a bit like a living museum.

It will continue to display some of the artifacts and history that the family had collected over the years.

“As we get older and we get to a certain point, we want to take that and share it with others,” David explained.
